About Our Farmers

Brenda Caldwell has been our Farm Manager since 2009.

Her love of the natural environment brought her to farming after careers in the corporate legal word and the classroom. She has a master gardener certificate, a permaculture design certificate and has attended numerous classes, conferences and workshops on sustainable agriculture and living. She reads about soil, plants, and animals for fun and is a biology geek. She has a master’s degree in elementary education and brings her teaching experience to bear on relationships with farm members and visitors, young and old.

Brenda takes great pleasure in eating delicious food. You can be assured that vegetable varieties are selected for taste and beauty.

Brenda is involved many community projects including the creation of Rocky Corner Co-housing in Bethany. She is a student in the martial art of Aikido at New Haven Aikikai. She lives in Bethany with her partner Marie and many happy animals.

Alani Gandossy is joining Boulder Knoll for the 2017 season as co-farmer and environmental educator.

As Brenda’s daughter she has helped on the farm since its beginning. She has also worked on farms in Costa Rica, Hawaii, and Hamden, CT. She received her Permaculture Design Certificate on Orcas Island, WA and a Bachelors degree in Biology from The Evergreen State College. She has studied acupuncture, Chinese herbology, and nutrition and has a special interest in growing culinary and medicinal herbs.

She loves cooking and baking and will probably be spending much of her free time baking pies and trying new recipes to share with CSA members.

Alani lives in Bethany with her partner, Cheryl, and their beautiful cat, Clay.

She is planning for a fabulous and fun year filled with garden work dance parties, a new newsletter and many workshops on gardening basics, naturalist skills, food and herb prep, and crafts and construction projects.
